It is a privilege and honor to be your
President for the coming year. Every day brings
a new opportunity for growth. I would like
to see all of us grow. It is not only important
to grow in numbers for membership, but to grow
internally. Think about what we can do differently
this year. I look forward to hearing your ideas
for new events. Just think of the possibilities,
ideas and opportunities that can be produced
by 167 members. We need everyone to make it
happen. Ruth Kuftin and Barisha Spriggs are
the co-chairs for Programs. Please contact
them with your fabulous ideas and offer to
help.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at
the annual all-members potluck dinner meeting
on September 12 at the Eden United Church of
Christ hall from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come renew
your friendships and meet new members.
Liz Bathgate and I attended the National AAUW
Convention in Washington D.C. in June. Getting
to hear great speakers such as Jehan Sadat, Madeline
Albright, and Nancy Pelosi was a thrill . One
of the key issues that we voted on for a change
in our bylaws was to open membership in AAUW
to women with an AA degree or equivalent. This
opens our membership to women who have graduated
from Community Colleges as well as women who
have graduated from Nursing School.

The California State AAUW Convention next
Spring will be held in San Jose. I highly recommend
attending it. I will keep you posted as details
are available.
Not all journeys follow straight roads – evident
right here in the area. You can count on the
curves, bumps, detours, uphill climbs and even
the downhill slides. Every choice you make
gives you a chance to pave your own road. No
matter who we are or where we live, we all
have our own journey. Let us take the journey
together.
I hope you look back at this year as the
time when you decided to make every moment
count and relish each day. And when you get
a choice to sit it out or join in, I hope you
join in. Know that life is better when you
share it. It gets even sweeter when you expand
the circle. Join me in the circle.
